COVID-19 : MAYOR DELE OSHINOWO ADVISES RESIDENTS AGAINST PANIC FOOD BUYING, BEGINS PRICE HIKE INSPECTION
As measures are taken across the globe to put the novel coronavirus pandemic under control, the Chief Incident Commander in charge of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA, Mayor Dele Oshinowo has appealed to residents of the locality to desist from panic food buying.
This was contained in a press statement issued by the Chief Incident Commander today in Lagos.
The incident commander, who doubles as the council chairman noted that there was no reason for any resident to express fear, stressing that the directives of the Lagos State Government had exempted food markets across the LCDA.
While understanding the likely consequences of the supply chain driving up prices, the council chairman posited that there was no justification for any price gouging, adding that prior to this moment that several interactions had been held with market leaders domiciled in the LCDA.
The chairman further stated that an enforcement team was already in place visiting various food markets to ensure food stuff sellers are not taking advantage to inflate prices.
The chairman also noted that the team has the jurisdiction to monitor shops to ensure prices of basic households goods and needs are not subjected to price hikes during this period.
According to the statement, the enforcement team in place is being led-by the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Peter Bamisaye.
